Highlights from Houston's AEC scene
This past month was nothing short of extraordinary for Deborah as she stayed busy across Houston’s industry and networking scene. From comedy and construction to kayaking, sandcastles, and mentorship, she was everywhere making meaningful connections and celebrating the community. Here’s a recap of her whirlwind month:
WC Construction & Patrick Stanley Comedy Event - Deborah kicked off the month with a night full of laughter at A Night of Comedy & Music to Benefit Faith in Practice hosted by WC Construction and Patrick Stanley, at The Houston Improv. The event raised funds for Faith in Practice, a life-changing mission that provides medical care in Guatemala. From industry pros stepping out of their comfort zones on stage to nonstop laughs, the evening was both entertaining and inspiring. Hats off to the brave semi-pro comedians who made the night unforgettable!
Women in Construction Kayak Social - Switching hard hats for paddles, Deborah joined the Women in Construction group for a kayaking adventure. What was supposed to be a light sprinkle turned into a full monsoon, but that didn’t stop the fun. Rowing against the wind and rain became a test of endurance and an unforgettable bonding experience. The group is already looking forward to the next (hopefully sunnier) paddle.
CREW Houston Luncheon - Deborah attended the CREW Houston luncheon featuring Craig Rhodes, SVP of Economic Development at the Greater Houston Partnership. Craig delivered an optimistic outlook on Houston’s future, highlighting steady growth, a strong business climate, and an influx of tech and life sciences headquarters. It was an energizing session that reinforced why Houston continues to be a top choice for companies and talent.
AIA Houston Sandcastle Festival - Leading up to the big weekend, Deborah joined teammates from MGC, Inc., Kirksey Architecture, and Tellepsen at the AIA Sandcastle Happy Hour to connect and prepare for the competition. When festival day arrived in Galveston, on Deborah’s birthday, no less, the team’s hard work paid off with a third-place Bronze Bucket Award! With over 300 people collaborating in roles from digging and carving to carrying water and spraying down castles, the effort was massive and inspiring. The precision and effort behind the builds were remarkable, and celebrating a third-place finish on her birthday made it a day to remember.
Hustle, Hard Hats, & High Heels - Deborah joined ABC Greater Houston and LOGIC (Ladies Operating for Growth in Construction) for Hustle, Hard Hats, & High Heels, an empowering panel of women leaders. Speakers shared openly about their leadership styles, authenticity, and personal definitions of success. Deborah left feeling inspired by the stories and grateful for a space where women in construction continue to support and uplift one another.
ACE Mentor Program Houston – Bingo & Brews - The month wrapped up with high energy at ACE Mentor Program Houston’s Bingo & Brews. The sold-out event brought together supporters of the ACE mission to mentor and inspire the next generation of AEC professionals. Deborah even scored a BINGO win, adding some extra fun to the evening! Huge credit goes to the ACE team for creating such a dynamic way to support future industry leaders.
From giving back to celebrating big wins, this month was filled with events that showcased the strength, creativity, and camaraderie within the Houston AEC community. Deborah’s presence at each gathering highlighted her dedication to staying connected, supporting peers, and building relationships across the industry.
