More life-saving meow and bow-wow

Historically, Florida’s snowbirds have accounted for more than just a seasonal increase in people to the peninsula. In 1924, eight ladies in Palm Beach met to address the problem of animals left behind when their owners returned north. What is now known as the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League places over 5,000 animals into loving homes each year. It also provides low-cost pet vaccinations and spay and neuter surgeries, approximately 10,000 and 14,000 annually, respectively. Jackson & Ryan Architects has designed a new Pet Adoption Center to help the League expand their services; a capital campaign is now underway. The new Center will include a neonatal kitten nursery, a wellness clinic, adoption counseling areas, and indoor/outdoor areas for play and behavioral training. The Center features thoughtful housing, training and interactive areas that provide increased animal enrichment and decreased noise levels, all to reduce stress on the animals. PRISM worked closely with Rich Anderson, Executive Director/CEO of Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, and Jackson & Ryan on a robust suite of graphics and an animation to support the capital campaign.

Housing by Hines

Many in Houston know Hines for their commercial real estate portfolio. The firm is actively growing its multifamily division. Construction is now underway on Hines’ first San Antonio multifamily property, a luxury apartment complex at The RIM retail power center. Meeks + Partners designed the 4-story complex. It features resort-style amenities such as a two-tiered pool with adjacent cabana area, yoga and fitness center, collaborative work space, and a dog park with a wash area. Each unit has a “tuck-under” garage that provides residents direct access from their private garage.

2018 HBJ Landmark Awards winners

In a field of worthy entries, the panel of judges had the difficult task of selecting one winner from each category for the Houston Business Journal 2018 Landmark Awards. Entries were judged on potential for impact to Houston, such as job creation, innovation, best land use, development of surrounding neighborhoods and visual impact. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists for making a positive contribution to our community! Special recognition goes out to four of our clients for taking the top honor in their category this yearand for allowing us to be part of these award-winning projects.
  • A.D. Players’ Jeannette and L.M. George Theater, by Gabriel Architects, won in the Public Assembly category. Studio Red Architects assisted with interior design.
  • The Houston Zoo Elephant Barn and Yard Expansion, by House + Partners Architecture and Planning, won in the Special Project category. Forney Construction was the general contractor.
