The Ray of light (rail)

At roughly twice the area of the Texas Medical Center, Generation Park is Houston’s largest new commercial development. This unique project from McCord Development is designed as a fully-contained mini-city, complete with a life sciences business hub, a variety of single and multifamily living options, mixed-use lifestyle centers, and two college campuses. The expansive outdoor amenities even include a Crystal Lagoon and a surf park. Of the 4,300-acre development, 500 acres are devoted to nature preserves and parks, with 75 miles of hiking/biking trails.

What promises to set Generation Park truly apart is The Ray. The 4-mile multi-modal loop around Generation Park West will allow residents, employees, and visitors to access everything offered in the park without a car. McCord worked with PRISM to produce their vision of what The Ray will look like when fully developed.

McCord recognizes the increasing importance of access and accessibility, especially to businesses that value employees’ health and wellness. The Ray will link every district of Generation park with limited interruption from vehicular traffic. It will have a 12’ wide paved trail for bikes and scooters, an 8’ wide pathway of decomposed granite exclusively for people on foot, and an ultra-light rail system. Mature trees will provide shade and benches, and water fountains, and fitness stations will cater to users of all abilities.
